Overview

A Better Option for Men's Health. No Surgery Required.

At Aria Vascular, we offer minimally invasive, interventional treatments for men’s health conditions that have traditionally required surgery — or been left untreated altogether. Our board-certified interventional radiologists specialize in image-guided procedures that address the vascular root causes of enlarged prostate (BPH) and varicocele, providing effective relief with minimal downtime and no major surgery.

As the only comprehensive vascular center in San Joaquin County, we give Central Valley men access to advanced treatments — PAE and varicocele embolization — right here in Stockton, without the need to travel to a major academic center.

Conditions We Treat

Men's Vascular Conditions We Treat

Aria Vascular specializes in two primary men’s health conditions where minimally invasive treatment offers significant advantages over traditional surgical approaches.

Enlarged Prostate (BPH)

Affects 90% of men by age 85

Benign prostatic hyperplasia causes the prostate to press against the urethra, creating frustrating urinary symptoms that disrupt daily life and sleep.

Varicocele

Most common correctable cause of male infertility

Enlarged veins within the scrotum — similar to varicose veins — that cause discomfort and are found in up to 40% of men evaluated for infertility.

Minimally Invasive Treatments at Aria Vascular

For Enlarged Prostate (BPH)

Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE)

PAE is a minimally invasive, image-guided procedure that reduces prostate size and relieves BPH symptoms without surgery. Performed through a small catheter inserted at the wrist or groin, PAE blocks blood supply to the prostate — causing it to shrink and reducing pressure on the urethra.

Clinical studies show 75–90% symptom improvement with results comparable to surgical TURP — but with far less risk and a dramatically shorter recovery.

For Varicocele

Varicocele Embolization

Varicocele embolization is a minimally invasive alternative to surgical varicocelectomy. Using image guidance, a catheter is guided to the abnormal testicular veins and a coil or sclerosing solution is used to permanently block them — redirecting blood flow through healthy vessels and relieving congestion.

Comparable success rates to surgery, with key advantages: no incision, no general anesthesia, home same day, and 1–2 day recovery vs. 1–2 weeks for surgery. Can improve sperm parameters and fertility outcomes in 3–6 months.

Common Questions

Men's Health FAQs

Am I a candidate for prostate artery embolization (PAE)?

PAE is appropriate for most men with symptomatic BPH who haven’t responded to medications or wish to avoid surgery. It’s particularly well-suited for men with very large prostates, those wanting to preserve sexual function, or those who are poor candidates for general anesthesia. A consultation with our team will determine if PAE is right for you.

One of the key advantages of PAE over surgical options like TURP is the preservation of sexual function. PAE does not carry the risk of retrograde ejaculation that affects 10–90% of TURP patients, and erectile dysfunction rates following PAE are very low — making it a preferred choice for many men.

Most men notice improvement in urinary symptoms within 4–8 weeks as the prostate begins to shrink. Continued improvement occurs over 3–6 months. Clinical studies show 75–90% of patients experience significant symptom relief — comparable to surgical TURP results.

Yes. Varicocele is the most common correctable cause of male infertility, and embolization has been shown to improve sperm count, motility, and morphology in many men. Improvement in sperm parameters is typically evaluated at 3–6 months post-procedure. A consultation with our team and your urologist will help set appropriate expectations.

Embolization and surgical varicocelectomy have comparable success rates, but embolization has key advantages: no surgical incision, no general anesthesia, same-day discharge, faster recovery (1–2 days vs. 1–2 weeks), and no risk of hydrocele formation — a known complication of surgery.

PAE and varicocele embolization are covered by most major insurance plans including Medicare for qualifying patients. Our team will verify your benefits and assist with prior authorization. Call (209) 226-4300 with insurance questions.
