Overview

You Deserve More Than "Just Live With It"

“Many women suffer for years from uterine fibroids and chronic pelvic pain without ever being told that a minimally invasive, non-surgical option exists. At Aria Vascular, we’re here to change that — right here in the Central Valley.”

At Aria Vascular, our board-certified interventional radiologists specialize in image-guided procedures that address the root vascular causes of women’s health conditions — offering effective relief while preserving the uterus and minimizing recovery time.

As the only comprehensive, multidisciplinary vascular center in San Joaquin County, we give Central Valley women access to the same advanced treatments available at major academic medical centers — without the long drive to Sacramento or the Bay Area.

Conditions We Treat

Women's Vascular Conditions We Treat

Aria Vascular specializes in two primary women’s health conditions that are frequently underdiagnosed and undertreated across the Central Valley.

Uterine Fibroids

Affects up to 80% of women by age 50

Non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus that can cause significant symptoms. Fibroids are the #1 cause of hysterectomy in the U.S. — yet a non-surgical option exists.

Pelvic Congestion Syndrome

Often misdiagnosed for years

Varicose veins around the ovaries and uterus causing chronic pelvic pain. Frequently mistaken for endometriosis or IBS — patients are often told their pain has “no cause.”

Minimally Invasive Treatments at Aria Vascular

For Uterine Fibroids

Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)

UFE is a minimally invasive, image-guided procedure that treats fibroids without surgery. Performed through a small puncture in the wrist or groin, a catheter is guided to the uterine arteries where tiny particles are injected to block the fibroids’ blood supply — causing them to shrink and die while leaving your uterus intact.

Key benefits of UFE over hysterectomy or myomectomy:
For Pelvic Congestion Syndrome

Pelvic Vein Embolization

The gold-standard minimally invasive treatment for pelvic congestion syndrome. A catheter is guided to the abnormal pelvic veins and a solution is injected to permanently close them — eliminating the source of congestion and providing lasting pain relief for the majority of patients.

Performed under light sedation, takes approximately 60–90 minutes. Most patients go home the same day and return to normal activities within 2–3 days. Studies show meaningful pain relief in 75–85% of women with pelvic congestion syndrome.

Your Care Journey

What to Expect at Aria Vascular

Initial Consultation

A thorough review of your symptoms, medical history, and any prior imaging or diagnoses. We explain all available treatment options in plain language — including both minimally invasive and surgical approaches — so you can make a fully informed decision.

Your Procedure

UFE and pelvic vein embolization are both performed under light sedation, typically taking 60–90 minutes. Most patients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. UFE patients may experience cramping in the days following as fibroids begin to shrink — this is normal and manageable with medication.

Recovery & Follow-Up

Most UFE patients return to normal activities within 1–2 weeks. Pelvic vein embolization patients often resume activity within 2–3 days. We schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your progress — most UFE patients see significant improvement in bleeding and pain within 3 months.

Common Questions

Women's Health FAQs

Am I a candidate for uterine fibroid embolization (UFE)?

Most women with symptomatic fibroids who wish to avoid surgery or preserve their uterus are potential candidates. The best way to find out is a consultation with our interventional team. We’ll review your imaging, symptoms, and medical history to make a personalized recommendation.

UFE is generally not recommended as a first-line treatment for women actively trying to conceive, as its impact on future fertility is still being studied. For women who have completed their families or are not planning a pregnancy, UFE is an excellent option. We’ll discuss this in detail during your consultation.

Most patients see significant fibroid shrinkage within 3–6 months, with continued improvement over 12 months. Heavy bleeding typically improves within the first menstrual cycle after the procedure. Pelvic pain and pressure often resolve as fibroids shrink.

No. PCS is caused by abnormal varicose veins in the pelvis, while endometriosis is caused by uterine tissue growing outside the uterus. Both cause chronic pelvic pain and are often confused. If you’ve been told your pain has no identifiable cause, PCS may be worth evaluating — call us at (209) 226-4300.

Yes. UFE is covered by most major insurance plans including Medicare and Medi-Cal for women with symptomatic fibroids. Pelvic vein embolization coverage varies by plan. Our team will verify your benefits and assist with prior authorization before your procedure.

A referral is not required — women can self-refer directly to Aria Vascular. However, we encourage coordination with your OB-GYN or gynecologist for comprehensive care. If you have a referral, please bring any relevant imaging or records to your consultation.
